Dream Catchers

I've always thought dream catchers were beautiful but I never thought of trying to make one my self, I always just oogled at ones I saw at festivals and markets. Then one day my brother learned how to make them. After months of bugging him, he finally taught me how to make them. I'll be honest and let you know that patience is definitely needed to make these. But once you get the hang of it they get easier to make and you can explore with different styles, sizes and patterns. Dream catchers are great gift ideas (I personally think so :) ) and they look awesome.

Dreamcatchers are said to keep all bad dreams in its web through the night, vanishing when the sun comes up and letting good dream pass through, down the feather and to the sleeper.

Here are some pictures of ones personally made by my brother.

Key Chain Size

The materials for this one comes pre packaged at dollarama.

Materials needed:

Metal or wood hoop (your choice on size)
Suede cord

So here is a really funny and informative tutorial on how to make dream catchers. Just a warning, you do need patience and a sense of humour to watch this video. It is the best one that I found though and I do recommend it! Enjoy!

Hemp Jewelry

I decided to do a post about hemp jewelry because there are so many different styles and patterns you can make and its something a little different than my previous posts. I love making help jewelry, mostly because of the cool beads you can use for them. Also there are different sizes and colour of hemp so you can make anything that suits your style. Right now I have the regular earth tones of hemp. But I also have purple, gold, blue and pink. The different colours look really cool when paired with wood beads just as the tanned hemp looks sweet with coloured glass beads. One more thing is that you can use a pendant for the centre piece if you want to make a necklace, there's a lot of sweet ones out there. But then again everyone likes something different.

I find the best beads from general stores in small towns believe it or not. But art and craft stores definitely have a great selection for beads to use, also online is a good place to look. But for beginners you can get everything you need from Wal-Mart.

Video tutorial on how to make a basic hemp bracelet. The video is in two parts and they're each only a few minutes long so it won't take too much of your time! Happy Hemping!

Candle Holders

Candles have to be one of my favourite home decor things. I actually have a friend that makes candles from scratch so I always try and find new ideas for holders for them. This post is a little different because there are so many different ideas I stumbled on for making candle holders. Below I have a few pictures for ideas and a materials list. These are also great gift ideas and you can do so much with them with minimal materials needed.

Most of the materials can be bought at your local dollar store, if you can't find something you can go to Wal-Mart or your local craft store to find what you need.

Some of the necessary materials you will need are:
1. Glue gun
2. Glue sticks for glue gun
3. Mod Podge
4. Paper, tissue paper, glass gems,
5. Really anything you want to use on the candle holder, ie. the dried leaves for the fall themed holders.

Below each image are brief instructions on how to make the candle holder show.
This is one really cute for winter. All that is needed for this one is white glue and sparkles.
It is a little messy but the finish product is worth it!

These 3 above are all made the same way. You will need a mason jar (or any other glass holder), Mod podge, sponge brush and whatever you're using to stick on (dried leaves, tissue paper).

Use the Mod Podge to stick the paper on, but be gentle so it doesn't rip. After all the snow flakes or leaves are on, do 1-2 coats over top of Mod Podge to seal it.

This one is really easy to make. You will need a mason jar, hot glue gun and you can buy coloured gems at the dollar store.

Jewelry Holder

I love this idea because I have an abundance of necklaces and lets face it, jewelry boxes and necklace holders are expensive and they don't hold that much considering what you are paying. And unless you are going to a one of a kind store to buy one they're also pretty generic. I came across this idea on pintrest and I think it's looks awesome. It's really easy to make and you can customize it to your own style, definitely one of a kind. These jewelry holders are also awesome great gift ideas for any woman in your life!

What you will need:

1. Sweet wood picture frame (I personally like the vintage look)
2. Cup Hooks (to hang necklaces)
3. Paint (optional if you want to change the colour of the frame)

* If you want to watch a video for step by step instructions click here

So start of by taking everything out of the frame, the picture, backing, glass, all of it so all your have left is just the frame.

Then mark where you are going to screw the hooks in to ensure they are evenly spread apart.

Once you have the cup hooks screwed in you are done! Time to hang on the wall and add your jewelry.

Below I have some pictures of the final product to inspire your creation.

Pebble Coasters & Placemats

This post was inspired by my last post about the stone floor mats. I came across these images from a site about home decorating. This is the link if you want to look at more cool ideas.
http://www.decor4all.com

I think these are so cute and you can get small pebbles like these anywhere. In the summer time you can get them from beaches, walks along the path and anywhere you can go swimming really. You can always buy them too, art and craft stores will be the best place to get a good variety but dollar stores have them as well for a cheap price. So it also depends on the circumstance and your budget.

Things you will need:

1. Rubber mat
2. Contact adhesive
3. Pebbles
